Our Kola: Friends of LNI

For 49 years, our mission has remained the same, to promote the culture, heritage, and community of the Lakota people and further reconciliation between our Native and non-Native communities. To achieve our mission, we offer various cultural, fine arts, academic, and athletic events. Our events held throughout the year offer the chance for our Native and non-Native youth to compete against each other and build lifelong relationships that help foster reconciliation, promote positive race relations, and strengthen our communities and schools. Along with the positive influence on students, LNI also has a vast impact on the local Rapid City economy, bringing millions of dollars to Rapid City and the surrounding communities annually.

Our focus and mission remain important today, as we continue to invite both Native and non-Native schools to participate in our tournaments and events, fostering those relationships and strengthening our communities.

LNI has been able to thrive and grow due to the generous donations and support from businesses and neighbors like you. LNI is the biggest high school basketball tournament in the state, but a tournament of this size comes with high operating costs, including everything from building rent to workers and awards, and everything in between.
